3 Reasons for Small Businesses to Have a Website
March 25th, 2010Well, it’s 2010. We have super-fast, super-small computers doing everything from building cars to saving lives. We are all connected by this super-big, super-connect network, called the Internet that connects everyone from the Antarctic to the North Pole. It is something that integrates all parts of our lives in a synergy of ideas, knowledge and expression.
And yet, with the importance of the internet rapidly rising everyday, there are still businesses out there that think we don’t need a website. While it may be obvious to someone who use the internet everyday for things such as banking to buy movie tickets; it may not be so obvious for others. Here are some major reasons for businesses who don’t currently have a solid web presence, to help them reconsider their position.
1. The internet is 24 hours a day/7 days a week
How often do you work as an owner or a manager of a business; 60, 70, 80, or more hours a week? Even if you manage to keep it together putting in all those hours; do you think you could promote your business, connect with your clients and sell your products, 24 hours a day? How about 24 hours a day, everyday, all year? I don’t think there is, or ever was, a human alive who can possible attempt this. But this is what the internet does everyday, for thousands of businesses. By properly implementing a online marketing campaign with a clean site that conveys your message, you can drastically increase the number of people visiting your site, which leads to people calling, actually visiting the business or just buying right there online. By making yourself available as much as you can to you clients, while at the same time making every avenue easy, the profits are sure to follow.
2. Professional Site = Professional Business
It’s sad to say, but true. If I google new shoes, and click on a link to a site that I think might interest me, but when I arrive at the site, everything looks messed up and is hard to read; I will most likely click back and find another site in less than ten seconds. This is the curse of the ugly site. Having a horrible looking site is almost as bad as not even having a site. It gives people the wrong impression of the business. If the site looks like the bosses nephew made the site; people will think the bosses nephew is running the show. It’s that simple. It’s not about have the bells and whistles; it’s about cleaning presenting the information about your business in a readable and stylish fashion. Having the right site, made by someone who knows design and web standards, will take you to the next level.
3. The internet makes your business…easier
In the end, that is what the internet is all about. Making it easier for you to do business. That doesn’t mean it’s always easy to set up. But by finding the right person to help you, they will make it easy for you to convey how you want your business to look. By using the internet to help power and market your business, it makes you look professional, to an international audience; all from the convenience of wherever you are. You can monitor inventory, track sales, sell merchandise, handle customer complaints; all while talking to your best friend in 5th grade on facebook.
There are still plenty more reasons to have a website for your business.
